Piwee and the Lost Shopping Trolley

About

Piwee and the Lost Shopping Trolley
This story is about young Piwee, a children sized supermarket shopping trolley.

The General, a wise, and older adult supermarket shopping trolley is Piwee’s mentor. He discusses with Piwee how to do his best and be a smart trolley who is hopeful Piwee will grow up to be like the adult shopping trolleys one day, but he must be patient, something Piwee is not. The General tells Piwee a story, when he was a young army recruit, he was given a whistle to use whenever he got into trouble and showed this to Piwee.

That evening Piwee hears that The General was taken away by a customer who had filled The General with a lot of groceries, and like many supermarket shopping trolleys in any town and city, these trolleys are discarded in the most unusual places, lost or in disrepair. Piwee is shocked at how many trolleys are taken out of the supermarket building, misplaced, and left to rust, so Piwee decides to go on a rescue mission by himself to find his mentor, The General, to the dismay of the other adult supermarket shopping trolleys in the supermarket where Piwee lives and works.
Piwee’s journey takes him through the town, into a bushy area where he discovers many other shopping trolleys discarded by grassy banks and other muddy areas. Piwee rescues these trolleys who agree to join Piwee in his quest to find The General.

During his search for The General, Piwee and the other rescued shopping trolleys roll on to find more lost trolleys, and soon hear a faint whistling sound. Piwee recognised the whistle and saw it was The General who was stuck by the side of a riverbank. Piwee and the trolleys help him to his wheels.

They are so glad to see each other and head home to the supermarket, to the delight of the other trolleys who were looking very concerned for Piwee’s safety.

The supermarket trolleys are cleaned up and the adult trolleys talk with Piwee to make sure he doesn’t go off by himself again, indicating it is dangerous to do this. Although The General is happy to have been rescued, he also decides to have a chat with Piwee, offering some wise advice. Piwee realises his mistake and promises not to go off again by himself.
Soon after, the trolleys discuss how to stop these wonderful supermarket shopping trolleys from being taken away from the supermarket by their customers. Many ideas were received, and a plan of action was decided on.

Before they go to sleep for the night, The General rolls up to Piwee and decides to give Piwee his whistle, not for being brave, but just in case he needs help one day while he learns to make wiser decisions. Piwee is very happy that it all turned out well too, and he learned a lesson in listening to adult advice.

Piwee and the Lost Shopping Trolleys is not only a lesson on listening to responsible adult advice, but it also emphasises the dilemma of so many shopping trolleys being taken out of supermarket premises, discarded, and littering the streets, and other areas all over towns and cities worldwide, which costs these supermarkets, time, effort and money to retrieve them.
